Zakat Calculator
Enter today's gold and silver price per tola and what you own. The calculator checks the nisab and works out zakat at 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth.
1. Today's prices
2. What you own (held for a lunar year)
How zakat is calculated
- Add up your zakatable wealth: gold, silver, cash, bank balances, business stock and money you are owed, valued at today's prices.
- Subtract debts that are due now.
- Compare the result with the nisab, the minimum threshold. If your wealth has stayed above the nisab for one lunar year, zakat is due.
- Zakat is 2.5% (one fortieth) of the net amount.
Example: Rs 150,000 cash, Rs 850,000 in the bank, 3 tola of gold at Rs 400,000 per tola and Rs 100,000 owed to you, minus Rs 200,000 of debts, gives net wealth of Rs 2,100,000. That is above the silver nisab, so zakat is Rs 2,100,000 × 2.5% = Rs 52,500.
What is the nisab?
The nisab is 7.5 tola (87.48 grams) of gold or 52.5 tola (612.36 grams) of silver. Because silver is much cheaper, the silver nisab is far lower, so more people are liable under it. Many scholars recommend it as the safer, more charitable choice, and Pakistan uses it for its official nisab. For Ramadan 2026 (1447 AH) the government fixed the nisab at Rs 503,529, based on silver at Rs 9,591 per tola; that rate is the calculator's default. Prices change daily, so enter the current rate for an accurate result.
Zakat deducted by banks
In Pakistan, banks deduct 2.5% zakat on the first day of Ramadan from savings and similar accounts whose balance is at or above the official nisab, unless the account holder has filed a zakat exemption declaration. If zakat was deducted at source, count it as zakat already paid on that money.
What this calculator does not decide
Rulings differ on some assets, such as jewellery for personal use, retirement funds, rental property income and long-term business debts. The calculator includes what you enter. Ask a trusted scholar if you are unsure whether an asset is zakatable.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the zakat nisab in 2026?
- 7.5 tola of gold or 52.5 tola of silver, valued at today's price. Pakistan's official nisab for Ramadan 2026 was Rs 503,529, based on silver at Rs 9,591 per tola.
- Should I use the gold or silver nisab?
- Both are valid. The silver nisab is lower, so it makes zakat due on smaller savings and benefits more people in need; many scholars recommend it, and it is the basis of Pakistan's official nisab.
- Is zakat due on gold jewellery I wear?
- Scholars differ. In the Hanafi school, widely followed in Pakistan, zakat is due on gold and silver jewellery whether worn or not. Other schools exempt jewellery in regular personal use.
- How many grams is one tola?
- One tola is 11.6638 grams. So 7.5 tola = 87.48 g of gold and 52.5 tola = 612.36 g of silver.
