About ToolStash
What ToolStash is
ToolStash is a growing collection of small, focused utilities for everyday developer work — comparing text, generating hashes and UUIDs, formatting JSON and SQL, converting between YAML, JSON and Markdown, and testing regular expressions. Each tool does one job, does it quickly, and gets out of the way.
Why it exists
Most of these tasks come up dozens of times a week for anyone who writes code: pretty-printing a blob of JSON pulled from an API response, checking why two config files don't match, generating a UUID for a test fixture. Reaching for a heavyweight IDE plugin — or worse, an ad-choked site that takes ten seconds to load a text box — is slower than the problem deserves. ToolStash exists to be the fast, boring, reliable option: open the page, do the thing, close the tab.
How the tools work
Every tool runs entirely client-side, in JavaScript, inside your own browser. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded to a server or stored anywhere — when you close the tab, it's gone. That's not a marketing promise; it's a consequence of how the site is built: there's no backend for tool data to pass through in the first place. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture, including how analytics and ads work on the site.
Why it's free
ToolStash is supported by display advertising rather than accounts, subscriptions, or paywalls. The trade-off is intentional: a tool you use for three seconds a few times a week isn't something anyone wants to sign up for or pay for, so ads keep the lights on instead.
What's next
New tools are added regularly, usually the same kind of small, single-purpose utilities already on the site. If there's one you find yourself needing often, get in touch via the contact page.
